At Vipulse Technology, we believe that our greatest strength lies not only in our technology and manufacturing capabilities but also in the people who bring them to life. Today, we introduce István Kalocsa, Head of Engineering at Vipulse Technology Hungary, whose journey reflects a lifelong passion for engineering, leadership, and continuous development.

István's story begins in Cegléd, Hungary, where he was born and spent his early childhood. Growing up in a family with strong technical roots, he developed an interest in mechanics from a young age. His father worked as a lathe operator, his godfather was an engineer, and his grandfather worked in the railway industry. As a child, István enjoyed repairing old and broken objects alongside his father, discovering how things worked and how they could be brought back to life. Combined with his natural abilities in mathematics and physics, these experiences gradually shaped his ambition to become an engineer.

At just 15 years old, István moved away from his family to attend high school in Jászberény. Living independently taught him responsibility, adaptability, and how to manage challenges on his own. His determination became evident again at 16, when he spent an entire summer working in a grocery store to save enough money for his driving licence. These early experiences helped develop the independence and perseverance that would later define his professional journey.

"Independence came early in my life. It taught me that challenges are not something to avoid, but something you learn to overcome."

Following high school, István attended university in Kecskemét, where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. His professional career began at Nypro Hungary Kft. as a Process Engineer, marking the beginning of a diverse journey through manufacturing and industrial management. Over the years, he gained experience in plastic injection molding, metal processing, precision assembly, automotive interior products, and electronics. His responsibilities gradually expanded through positions including Project Engineer, Production Shift Leader, Maintenance Leader, Lean Manager, Technical Manager, Quality Manager, and Engineering Manager.

One of the most defining experiences of his career came when he was only 23 years old. At that age, he was responsible for managing more than 100 employees during 12-hour production shifts. While technical challenges were part of his daily responsibilities, he quickly discovered that managing people required an entirely different set of skills. Understanding individual circumstances, communicating effectively, and supporting employees became essential lessons in his development as a leader.

"Machines and processes follow instructions. People have their own stories, challenges, and motivations. Understanding that difference was one of the most important lessons of my career."

As his career progressed, István became involved in international factory relocation and expansion projects, including greenfield and brownfield industrial developments. He participated in transferring production operations between Hungary and other European countries, gaining valuable experience in managing complex projects, coordinating teams, and overcoming operational challenges. These experiences strengthened his belief that successful engineering is not only about technology but also about bringing people, processes, and ideas together.

A new chapter began in the second half of 2025, when István started supporting Vipulse Technology before officially joining the company as Head of Engineering in January 2026. What attracted him was the company's ambitious vision and the opportunity to contribute to a growing manufacturing organization. Following his initial conversations with Orhan and Birkan, he recognized an environment where creativity, initiative, and professional development would be encouraged.

"For me, Vipulse holds endless possibilities. I wanted to be part of a place where challenges create opportunities, ideas are encouraged, and there is always something new to build."

István has always preferred workplaces where new challenges encourage people to think differently rather than simply repeat the same tasks. At Vipulse Technology, he saw an opportunity to apply his experience while continuing to develop both professionally and personally.

Today, his responsibilities involve coordinating engineering activities, supporting colleagues, communicating with suppliers and customers, and finding solutions to technical challenges. When describing a typical working day, István does so with humor: “coffee, emails, team meetings, decisions, more coffee, brainstorming, supplier discussions, and hopefully some time for actual engineering work.” Behind the humor is a demanding role that requires constant communication, flexibility, and teamwork.

What he enjoys most is helping colleagues overcome challenges and discovering new solutions together. Throughout his career, István has learned that difficult situations often bring people closer and create stronger teams. His leadership philosophy is built on trust, responsibility, and providing employees with the resources and authority they need to succeed.

"The best teams are forged during difficult situations. My job as a leader is not to make every decision for my team, but to give them the confidence, tools, and freedom to succeed."

Outside the workplace, István enjoys fishing, outdoor cooking, cycling, gardening, collecting vinyl records, and exploring new roads with his convertible or motorcycle. His adventurous personality is reflected in his bucket list, which includes driving along Route 66 in the United States, visiting Machu Picchu in Peru, exploring Japan and Australia, and traveling across Europe with a caravan. Yet some of his most meaningful dreams are closer to home, including dancing at his son's wedding and one day spending time with his grandchildren.

Family, friends, colleagues, and personal ambitions remain his greatest sources of motivation. He values honesty, open-mindedness, consistency, responsibility, helpfulness, and humor. Those who meet him often discover an approachable personality who can easily strike up conversations with people he has only just met.

"There are still so many things I want to experience and achieve. My family, my dreams, and the people around me are what keep me moving forward."

Looking toward the future, István sees significant opportunities for Vipulse Technology. However, his experience has also taught him that sustainable growth requires careful planning and a strong focus on people. As the company expands, he believes it will be essential to balance ambitious objectives with the well-being of employees, ensuring that teams have the capacity and support needed to succeed.

"Growth is exciting, but real success is building something sustainable, where the company and its people can move forward together."

When asked to describe himself in three words, István chooses “freedom, open-mindedness, and team spirit.” And when asked to describe Vipulse Technology in just one word, his answer is simple: “limitless.”

"Don't hesitate. Don't overthink it. Take action. Great opportunities come to those who are willing to become part of something bigger."

From a young boy fascinated by mechanics to an experienced engineering leader managing international industrial projects, István's journey demonstrates the importance of curiosity, independence, resilience, and teamwork.
